About the Role
Spotter is seeking a School Social Worker to support a caseload of K-2nd grade students for the full school year. This role serves students with a range of academic, behavioral, social-emotional, and developmental needs, including students with IEPs. The ideal candidate is comfortable managing crises calmly, building trust with young children, and partnering closely with parents, teachers, and the surrounding community.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide individual and small-group counseling to K-2nd grade students addressing social-emotional, behavioral, and adjustment needs
- Respond to and manage crisis situations involving students, using age-appropriate de-escalation and safety planning
- Serve as a case manager and service provider for students with IEPs, ensuring social work goals and services are delivered and progress is documented
- Participate in IEP meetings, Functional Behavior Assessments (FBAs), and Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs) in collaboration with the special education team
- Consult and collaborate with classroom teachers and school staff on classroom management strategies and understanding the behavioral/emotional needs of young students
- Act as the primary liaison between home, school, and community, communicating regularly with parents/guardians on student progress and available resources
- Connect families with school and community resources (mental health, social services, basic needs) and assist parents in accessing programs for students with special needs
- Support building-level intervention teams (MTSS/RTI) in identifying and addressing social-emotional and behavioral concerns early
- Use developmentally appropriate methods for young children (play-based interventions, social skills groups, visual supports) given the K-2 age range
- Maintain accurate, timely documentation in compliance with school, district, and state requirements
Qualifications
- Master's degree in Social Work (MSW) required
- Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) with School Support Personnel endorsement in School Social Work, or eligibility to obtain
- Experience working with early elementary-age children strongly preferred
- Experience with IEP processes, crisis intervention, and case management
- Strong communication skills with students, families, staff, and community partners
- Ability to manage a varied caseload with differing levels of need and severity
